Bobby Doherty So much has changed in the world of Cheap Eats since the last time we ranked our favorite inexpensive and moderately priced restaurants in New York that we decided it was high time to do it again. Way back in , Shake Shack was only two years old and its potent influence on the cheeseburger-scape had yet to be fully felt. Since then, a lot of trends have come and largely gone. Remember the Korean-fried-chicken craze? On the plus side, New York has seen the ascension of the mighty Lanzhou-hand-pulled-noodle movement. And on the pizza front, we watched as dollar-slice joints proliferated, even as the Great Neapolitan Pizza Invasion prompted a reinvigoration of our own classic hometown slice. Over the past eight years, New York has seen unprecedented growth in Isan Thai food and regional Chinese. New ramen players keep stirring the pot, and the fetishization of tacos and Mexican cuisine in general continues unabated. Bar food keeps getting better and so do drinks.

Danny Ashley saved the day, drilling a three pointer from the right baseline with defenders draped all over him for a dramatic victory. LuHi demolished two time defending Section 9 Champion Middletown In the end, the Thunderbirds remained in control, holding off several North Babylon runs to take an impressive decision at home.
Devon Hicks cut diagonally across the lane, got the dish and pulled up for a short jumper to cut it to , but a beautiful give and go to Lewis sparked another high-speed run, and a putback by Nero-Clark and a fast break basket by Kioni Nedd gave the Thunderbirds a advantage with 4: Hills East responded, scoring 9 straight points to close out the quarter, capped off by a 3 pointer by Shane Dean from the deep right wing, and they had a solid lead with one quarter complete.
Dean kept it going, opening the second quarter with a left baseline 3 pointer to put the Bulldogs on the ropes once again, and although Michael Picataggio answered with a left wing 3, Dean responded with his third straight triple, this one from the right wing, to keep the pressure on. Give North Babylon credit: Hills East was doing a great job limiting Billy Muller’s touches, but his teammates stepped up, with Shavonte Thomas looping one in from the lane and Hicks knocking down two free throws to get the Bulldogs back within striking distance.
The teams traded baskets and free throws the rest of the half, with Crittendon carrying the load for the Thunderbirds, and just as Hills started to ease away once again, North Baylon got clutch back to back 3s from Okanlawon to cut it to Thunderbirds at intermission. You could tell that North Babylon was determined to get the ball into the hands of Muller as the second half got underway, and they did and he responded, opening the half with 7 straight points to bring the Bulldogs back within 5.

KREISCHERVILLE, Staten Island 2017
We were well out of the channel on the green west side and very gradually slowing down to pick up our barge alongside. The sailboat you see astern of them in the first photo, however, was doing what sailboats and many other pleasure craft often do: In fact, there is a tendency to do it precisely and especially when and where there are very good reasons not to, such as when large ships, tugs with tows and other commercial vessels that must be in the channel because of their draft are in the vicinity.
This one was more-or-less paying attention to the fact that they were in one of the busiest shipping lanes in the country and they did move out of the channel, though in a very leisurely manner.

Effects of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey
False start Posted by Sean It’s been a full week since last I posted here, which was not my intent. In fact I should have been typing this Friday, when we had hoped to be under way to Jacksonville, but we had a bit of a false start which I will detail later in the post. Last Sunday afternoon we arrived in Oriental, NC to a predictably crowded anchorage.
The free docks were totally occupied. With light winds forecast from the north for the night, we eased up between two sailboats and dropped the hook in the harbor map , setting a very short scope.

In the spring and summer we fish from East Hampton, N. In the fall September to November we fish from a 27 ft custom center console boat out of the “Star Island Yacht Club” in Montauk and fish right under the light house for Stripers, Bluefish and Albacore which are in large schools busting water all around us. It is about miles east of New York City. This region is known as one of the sport fishing capitals of the world.
It is home to over 25 current world records. The waters of Long Island Sound flow into the Atlantic Ocean at Montauk and bring in vast amounts of bait and nutrients. This attracts great schools of Striped Bass, Bluefish and Fluke. Since Montauk is all ready so far out in the ocean it makes it the closest port to the canyons and the gulfstream. This in turn creates a fantastic fishing opportunity for off shore trips for tuna, shark, and marlin. If the water is too rough for off shore fishing the in shore fishing is always great.
Montauk Harbor has a great fleet of commercial fishing and charter boats to choose from.
